Proposed Glamping pods at Crofft yr Haidd Farm

Hello, we are Mwynwen, Amy, Ali and Ollie from Crofft yr Haidd Farm near Castellau in Rhondda Cynon Taf. We’ve set up this web page to give local residents some background on our plans for a Glamping project here.

Llantrisant Beating of the Bounds, 2024

The Farm

Crofft yr Haidd farm has been in Jan and Amy’s family for over 100 years. Historically, the mainstay of the farm business has been livestock (cows, sheep, pigs) and hay production. Today, we still have a flock of Black Welsh Mountain sheep. Records from the Glamorgan History Society state that Crofft yr Haidd dates back to 1649. With such a long history, we’re keen to keep the Crofft going as a farm for hundreds more years.

Background to the project

Everyone that visits Crofft yr Haidd comments on its quiet rural location and beautiful surroundings. This gave us the idea to start looking into hosting guests here as a way to diversify the farm business. We considered quite a few options and settled on a Glamping project. We felt it would be a great way for people to enjoy visiting, with the least amount of impact on the landscape.

As a test project, we set up a Motorhome Aire at the farm for self-contained Motorhomes / Campervans in August 2023. Since then, we’ve had guests from all over the UK and Europe. This has included guests from Norway, Switzerland, The Netherlands, Germany, Belgium and France. Many of our visitors have used the local pubs / restaurants in the area and have also visited local tourist attractions in RCT and further afield. They’ve left amazing reviews (see our Google listing) which has motivated us to provide something for longer term visitors.

The Plans

We have recently submitted plans to RCT Council for two Glamping pods at the farm. Detailed plans can be found on the Council’s Planning Portal by following this link. You can see an artist’s impression of how it might look below. As with any planning application, members of the public are free to comment on the proposals by using this link.
