Storm Dennis and Pontypridd Floods

Storm Dennis and Pontypridd Floods

Events, Latest posts
In the early hours of 16th February 2020 the River Taf in Pontypridd flooded. No-one expected the river to flood in the way it did. Over 1000+ homes and businesses were affected when the river rose to a new record height of 5.5 metres at around 5am. We knew things were going bad when the river flooded into the street at 2:30am. Just past 4am we were hastily tying our car onto a metal fence to stop it from washing away. Luckily, our home wasn't affected. But many of our neighbours were. Storm Ciara the week before, closely followed by Storm Dennis, brought an incredible amount of rain to the area. With the ground already saturated, there was nowhere else for the rain to go except down river. Watch our…

Our Dryad Bushcraft experience

Ever wondered how to survive in the wild? When we were in the middle of applying for a new TV show in Alaska* called 'The Claim', we realised that we needed to up our outdoor wilderness skills, so we booked on a one day Bushcraft course... Off we went to the Gower one weekend to learn some new skills. Luckily, the weather was perfect. The sun was out and there was barely any wind. This meant that we had a comfortable day messing about in the woods. As soon as we arrived, the big old…

I have a vague memory of people being excited about a yacht race, but I had no idea of the significance of it until now... Last night we went along to the Chapter Arts Centre in Cardiff to catch 'Maiden' and it blew us away. Here are just 5 reasons to go and watch it: 1. It's a life lesson in determination When someone told Skipper Tracy Edwards that she couldn't sail in the…

Banff Mountain Film Festival – Cardiff

Events
Have you heard of Banff before? It's a Canadian town situated under the shadow of the Rocky mountains and is famed for it's iconic range of mountain sports. Now they have an annual mountain film festival that is shown across the globe, including various locations across the UK. We first came across the event a couple of years ago and were blown away by the selection of films on offer. When we saw dates advertised for Cardiff in February, we quickly booked our tickets. St David's Hall hosted the event and showed the 'Red' programme of films. At each event, there was a choice of either the Red or Blue programme so you could pick which set of films you wanted to see. We were treated to 7 films, each…
