Is this the BEST European road trip ever?

Just before the global Covid-19 pandemic hit, we stumbled upon an incredible road trip in Portugal called the N2. When the world opened up again, we headed back to Portugal to experience the BEST European road trip ever. In January 2020 we were visiting family in a Portuguese village and did lots of fun stuff locally. We visited schist villages, spent a lovely day in Coimbra and headed to Nazare, famous for huge atlantic waves. On our travels, we stopped off in a tourist information centre and discovered a 'passport' for the N2. What is the N2? The N2, or the Estrada Nacional 2, is an iconic route that starts in the northern Portuguese town of Chaves. Built in 1945 it was once the main route through central Portugal, snaking…

Our shortest campervan trip to France

We made a last minute decision to spend a week in France in the campervan...would we get stuck in traffic and miss our ferry? Would we eat our bodyweight in baguettes and croissants? We never travel in August, ever. Why? Because the cost of travel is insane and the traffic is well known for being ridiculous. But, in an attempt to spread out our annual leave, we ended up booking a couple of weeks off in August with no real plan of how to use it. As the time got closer, the weather wasn't looking great for a break in the UK so we booked to go to France. Going on the Eurotunnel would mean selling a couple of kidneys, so we booked the ferry from Dover to Calais instead.…

In the middle of the 2020 Coronavirus Pandemic, and with nowhere to go, we've joined a house sitting website. Why? Read on! Planning for the future When the lockdown restrictions of 2020 are eventually lifted, we can't wait to get travelling again. Our plans to go and watch Le Tour de France this year are ruined, but we're already looking forward to new adventures through house sitting. Doing a good deed We've done some house sitting for friends in the past and have really enjoyed the experience. The people that we've helped have got pets, so rather than put them into kennels or find a pet sitter, they asked us to house sit. It was great for us as it meant that we got a little break in a different…

Ugh, we've been back from France for 5 days and it feels like a lifetime! One thing we're missing is following Le Tour de France. If you've been thinking about going over to France to catch some stages, here are our 5 top reasons to go... Seeing different parts of France The route for Le Tour is different every year. In the two times we've followed Le Tour, we've seen two stages in the French Alps and two in north Eastern France. We've wild camped at the side of the road near beautiful little towns and villages, meaning that we're exploring parts of France that we'd never normally see. Experiencing 'The Caravan' About two hours before all the riders sweep past, the sponsors 'caravan' speeds by which is a sight…

We’ve got a Mercedes Sprinter campervan!

After many happy years of ownership, we've just sold our beloved VW T4 campervan. Now we've got ourselves something slightly bigger. Welcome to the family, Sam the Mercedes Sprinter! The T4 served us well for many years, but it was time to upgrade on size and age. The Sprinter is a long wheel base and a high top which means we'll have plenty of room to play with. The van has been partially kitted out already but it's not quite the way we want it. Our first job is to strip it out, insulate it, then decide on our final layout. Here's to lots of happy future adventures in our new van!
